Students – information

The study of ‘harmony and counterpoint’ lies at the core of any general academic and theoretical course of music.

The study of one composer’s approach to this important topic offers insights that can be transferred to other musical styles, including the enhancement of your own personal creative work.

Through this topic, you will be introduced to a detailed understanding of the two important dimensions of all music:

  • the ‘vertical’ – i.e. HARMONY
  • the ‘horizontal’ – i.e. TEXTURE

Together with MODULATION between keys, by the end of this Course you should have a fully rounded understanding of the core attributes of musical harmony, which can then be applied to the styles of composers working from around 1500 to the early twentieth century.
